Daum Nancy Wheel-Carved Iris Blossom Cameo Glass Bottle

This French Art Nouveau wheel-carved cameo glass bottle with stylized stopper by Daum Nancy features a body as a dreamy, opalescent background in the lightest and most ethereal of blues, with a delicately rendered, nearly transparent iris blossom in pinkish purplish coloring blooming upward, reaching away from the dark purple leaves that frame its base. The top of the bottle and its stopper feature a canopy of dark, mottled purple glass that frames the diaphanous composition below.

The ethereal nature of the composition decorating this special piece speaks to the very nature of its being; the bottle would most likely have been intended to hold some sort of precious liquid, and so its delicate, gossamer-like carved glass decoration mirrors the nature of the material the item was intended to hold.
