"Tell el Amarna" is the name of the excavation site for the ancient Egyptian city of Akhetaton. Excavation of the site began in the 1890s, and by the turn of the 20th century, the art and artifacts discovered there had been widely disseminated. Louis Comfort Tiffany, a great lover of ancient Egypt, would no doubt have taken great notice of this discovery at the time.
