Jean Schlumberger trained in Paris, designing for Elsa Schiaparelli, the great Italian surrealist in the art of couture. His family's long heritage in the textile business inspired Schlumberger's playful exploration of weaving and threading with gold wire. Here, and in other jewels from the X collection, Schlumberger binds the two white gold bands with multiple "x" knots of yellow gold wire, as though casually tying the disparate elements of the mount together with gold thread.
