Daum Nancy "Ombelle" Cameo Glass Vase

This cameo glass "Ombelle" vase by French Art Nouveau masters, Daum Nancy, features a rounded body of smooth, light candy pink glass decorated by two delicate umbel blooms in green carved-relief glass. The flaring foot and mouth of the vase, by contrast, are hammered, with textured opaque green glass that frames the central composition in an organic way.

Flowers, like the giant hogweed, were one of great significance to the Art Nouveau masters, symbolizing regrowth, rebirth, and regeneration, and so, even though they can technically classified as a weed, flowers like these were honored with a beautiful place of privilege in many a masterpiece during the Art Nouveau period.
