Tiffany Studios New York "Damascene Lighthouse" Desk Lamp

This Tiffany Studios New York "Lighthouse" desk lamp features a bell-shaped iridescent green Favrile “Damascene” shade, suspended from a two-posted patinated bronze swing-top base, further decorated with an iridescent Favrile glass ball. Elegantly framed by fluted, undulating columns and an elegantly dipped base, beautifully held by two dramatically sweeping arms, and charmingly topped with a golden, iridescent glass globe, the star of this dynamic composition is undeniably the "Damascene" shade that sits at the center, with a particularly strong array of ombré color and hues of bright green and rich orange, dynamically interspersed with waves and ripples of iridescent gold.

The lamp, perhaps more aptly described as a modestly scaled monument, is structured so as to balance delicacy and strength in the proportions, most often seen in great trophies, shrines, and relics. The delicacy of the bell-shaped Favrile shade is mirrored in the exquisite fluting details and soft undulation of the two pillars that uphold it, with the organically-shaped dish that serves as its base, and the sinuous lines of the arms that hold the Favrile glass in place. Though delicate in its details, the overall shape of the composition speaks of an ancient fortitude that lends the piece the sort of gravity that ensures its timelessness.
