Ruby and Old Mine-cut Diamond Bangle Bracelet

Dating from the end of the 19th century, this ruby and diamond bangle is set in 18K gold. The hinged form is set across the top with eleven graduating oval cushion-shape faceted rubies, approximate total weight 4.00 carats, alternating with pairs of old mine-cut diamonds, completed by a plain polished gold bangle. A classic jewel of modern form with pristine old gems, this bangle can stack with other bejeweled bracelets or stand alone as a vivid band of color and sparkle.

In the 1890s women of fashion wore jeweled bangles several to a wrist. The 1894 Sir Fildes portrait of Queen Alexandra, who led jewelry fashion in the late Victorian age, shows the monarch wearing three narrow bracelets. Rubies, then as now, were the rarest of the colored stones.
