Ruby and Three-Stone Diamond Shield Ring

$7,500

This platinum three-stone diamond shield ring, dating from the Art Deco period, is enhanced by rubies and rose-cut diamonds. This classic form centers a vertical line of old European-cut diamonds, framed by calibré-cut rubies and rose-cut diamonds, and highlighted by bead-set diamond shoulders and millegrain accents. An elegant Art Deco design displaying refined lapidary and platinum work, the sleek, minimalist form with its vertical orientation elongates the finger and offers vivid color and sparkle.

After the restraint, white palettes and soothing pastels of the Edwardian period, designers of Art Deco jewelry responded strongly to the explosion of enthusiasm for primary colors that arrived with the Ballets Russes and the discovery of the tomb of King Tut. The exacting lapidary art of creating calibré-cut stones, which served to create figural representations and/or striking color contrasts, was in high demand throughout the 1920s.
