A student of design and mathematics, Marina Bulgari was an entrepreneurial young woman who left the safety of her family firm to found her own boutique in Geneva, soon winning over red carpet clients like Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, and Elizabeth Taylor. One of Marina B's first collections in 1978 included the ''Onda'' earring—the Italian word for wave is "onda," and the earrings exemplify waves, the polished gold weaving through the earrings like ''waves in the sea.''
