“Lions,” pate-de-verre glass vase by Gabriel Argy-Rousseau in the Art Deco style. The vase depicts a series of three male lions caught mid-hunt and mid-roar against a mottled ground that ranges from pinkish-hued white to deep magenta. The beautifully composed glass vase features velvety, warm red, pink and purple toned swirling desert vegetation, all of which is bowing dynamically to the force of a strong invisible wind.

Although they are somewhat abstracted, the vegetation adorning the desert floor that the lions run on is actually a bed of calla lilies, a flower native to sub-Saharan Africa, much like the lions pictured running above them.
