Tell el-Amarna is the site of the ruins and tombs of the city of Akhetaton in Upper Egypt, excavated to much public fanfare in 1887. The discoveries that were uncovered there delighted Louis Comfort Tiffany, who traveled to Egypt and other parts of North Africa in his youth, and subsequently fell in love with the ancient culture of the region.
