Van Cleef & Arpels Diamond and Turquoise Earrings

Created in the 1970s by Pery & Fils for Van Cleef & Arpels Paris, these 18K gold bombé clip earrings are set with turquoise and diamonds. Each subtle pear-form clip centers a oval cabochon turquoise framed by three curving lines of round brilliant-cut diamonds and a twisted gold wirework frame. Beautifully engineered like all Van Cleef & Arpels earrings, these dynamic swirling forms create pleasing texture contrasts and add a pop of sparkle, soft gold and sky blue to light up the eyes and face.

Van Cleef & Arpels bijouterie of the 1970s was creative and diverse, reflecting some of the lightheartedness and daring of the period's fashion and irreverent sensibility. Gold was textured in innumerable ways, whether engraved, worked in uneven relief, or twisted into wire, as in these clip earrings. A ring of this design by Van Cleef & Arpels, with its maker's mark effaced, is item no. 21581.
