Tiffany Studios New York "Moorish" Chainmail Chandelier Set

SOLD

Five cylindrical hanging shades with pierced openwork tops make up the warmly glowing constellation that is this "Moorish" chandelier by Tiffany Studios New York. Each of the separate, flexible shades, made of deep amber panels adjoined by dark, patinated bronze links are crowned with domed tops pierced in a refined pattern of striated openings. The fields of ochre colored glass tiles that comprise the shade are lightened by further openwork, in these instances in the shape of 8 point star bursts.

Tiffany was inspired to travel through Southern Spain and North Africa by the publication of Mark Twain's Innocents Abroad in 1869. So taken was Tiffany with the visual language of the region that he incorporated "Moorish" motifs in many of his most notable works for the rest of his life.
