Tiffany Studios New York "Linenfold Counterbalance" Desk Lamp

This ultra-luxurious Tiffany Studios New York gilt bronze "Linenfold" desk lamp features an amber-orange leaded glass shade that mimics the appearance of a folded, opulent linen fabric. Imbued with a sense of whimsy, the harp-shaped stem emerges from a lovely matted golden orb, which serves as the counterweight—or "Counter-Balance"—to the shade itself. The gilting of the bronze marries the entire composition of the piece with a single sense of luxury and shimmering joy.

The "Counter-Balance" style is a fascinating composition of designer Louis Comfort Tiffany in that, despite rather lush, heavy visual elements on either side of a small table or desk lamp, he achieves a sense of weightlessness that keeps the piece from optically being too weighty on either side.
