Tiffany Studios New York Jeweled Bronze Candlestick

With a splayed, decorated foot serving as a base for a slender stalk, the wonderfully balanced composition of this Tiffany Studios candlestick could only be improved upon with the addition of three flickering candles. The naturalistic base and stem (replete with budding branch at its very top) support three rotund candle holders, each with a girdle decorated with deeply colored, iridescent glass "jewels." The candle stick includes a snuffer and bronze bobeche inserts for each candle cup.

Louis Comfort Tiffany crafted a number of these candelabrum designs, either decorated in gilt bronze in candelabrum form or as single candlesticks, often with removable decorative bobeches; the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City has a patinated bronze single candlestick with similar Favrile glass in their extensive collection, which is similar to the design of this piece.
