Tiffany Studios New York Floral "Paperweight" Favrile Glass Vase

This abstract Tiffany Studios New York "Paperweight" glass vase is decorated with a band of soft-edged white daisies with long green stems and enhanced with red accents. The romantic hazy feel of the "Paperweight" Favrile glass is signature for the glasswork technique, involving innovative layering of glass forms. Louis Comfort Tiffany created, in this piece and others in the floral "Paperweight" series, to create an inviting and dreamy effect, in which the daisies appear as though a new imaginative, more impressionistic lens.

Louis Comfort Tiffany's paperweight-like objects were beautiful, but still served a purpose within the household. With his unique and sophisticated paperweight vases, Tiffany appears to have taken a major step towards his goal of elevating the paperweight, or paperweight-like object, to the status of a work of fine art.
