Tiffany Studios New York "Counter Balance" Damascene Table Lamp

$22,500

This delicately sized Tiffany Studios New York “Damascene Counterbalance” lamp is superbly colored in blood-orange and gold. Trails of blood orange glass were applied obliquely then combed through to create a stunning waved pattern. The Damascus lamps were named after the folded Damascus steel blades of Syria, wherein high and low carbon steel was folded together to create swirled charcoal and silver patterning. Through the medium of glass, Tiffany expressed his love of the Near East and the romance of the Bedouin warrior. A rotund bronze form of weighty proportions is cradled by two linear rods that support the orb from below before sweeping upward in a dramatic, tension filled arc from which a damascene shade is suspended.

Louis Comfort Tiffany revisited the idea of "Counter-Balances" often and made many varying designs with such structural parameters. This particular lamp is somewhat unique in its inclusion of two separate, but equally as desirable, types of glass, as well as the exceptional patterning on the bronze base. Altogether, these features make this lamp a combination of three unique Tiffany Studios innovations, beautifully tied together into one.
