Tiffany Studios New York "Amphora" Vase

This dual handled "Amphora" vase by Tiffany Studios New York is a visual force of great strength on a petite scale. The velvety, golden iridescence that washes over the darling piece alights it with a fire that burns in rainbow hues. Organic undulations dominate the composition, with a defined lip at the foot and mouth of the vase and gentle hills and valleys rising and falling in between in order to properly demonstrate the beauty of the iridescence.

Favrile is the trade name Tiffany gave to his blown art glass. The name derives from the Latin word fabrilis, meaning “made by hand.” The technique was used in both decorative vases and functional pieces such as tableware (bowls, goblets, carafes) and lamp shades. Tiffany intended the favrile designation as a guarantee to current customers and future collectors of the fine quality of these objects.
