Ruby and Diamond Three Stone Ring

Dating from around 1900, this antique three stone ring is gypsy-set with a red ruby, flanked by diamonds. A classic combination of noble stones—a cushion-cut ruby and two old European-cut diamonds—the ring presents the chunky old stones set flush with the gleaming gold band. Made fully by hand, this antique style carries a minimalist modern look of luxury materials combined with confident understatement.

The gypsy setting is contemporary looking, as well as durable and easy to wear, providing maximum protection for the gems- but it is also steeped in history. The colored stone loving Romans loved gypsy-set gemmy rings, while some claim that, in the 19th century, Victorian men and women wore them as left pinky rings to send the message that they were uninterested in marriage.
