Oscar Heyman & Brothers Black Opal and Gem-Set Bracelet

This contemporary bracelet created by Oscar Heyman & Brothers is composed of approximately eighty carats of variously shaped black opals, further enhanced by rubies, sapphires, yellow diamonds and diamonds, all set in gold and platinum. Centering a large oval opal tablet, the bracelet is seamlessly completed by articulated tapering strap of opals interspersed with pear-shaped diamonds, rubies and sapphires as well as circular-cut yellow diamonds. With shifting flashes of rainbow play-of-color enhanced by the vivid sparkle of faceted stones, the jewel interacts with light to create the mini spectacle of natural fireworks that opal lovers prize.

The stacks of tiny hydrous quartz spheres that constitute opal interfere with and diffract light as it travels among them. Areas with concentrations of larger spheres produce the rare, showy red and orange flashes, while the smallest spheres yield a soothing blue.
