Mauboussin Turquoise and Diamond Exotic Bird Brooch

$7,500

Designed by Mauboussin, this gold exotic bird-in-foliage brooch with turquoise and diamonds dates from the 1950s. The broad-tailed bird with a cabochon turquoise body and round-cut diamond head perches on a leafy stem of rope twist gold work, highlighted by a blossom with diamond center. Infused with humor and a touch of modernist abstraction, this Mauboussin bird conveys the exuberance and fun of Parisian jewels of the 1960s.

Known as the “Kings of Color,” Mauboussin was celebrated for its cutting edge taste and design in the 20th century. By the 1940s, the brilliant René Sim Lecaze joined the firm from Van Cleef & Arpels, where he had been a major force in that firm’s successes of the 1920s and 1930s. Sim Lecaze’s creative touch and design vitality enlivened Mauboussin’s mid-century work.
