Louis Majorelle "Aux Nénuphars" Two-Tier Table
This two-tiered mahogany and tamarind wood table, adorned with gilt bronze water lilies—hence the French name, "Aux Nénuphars"—from Louis Majorelle offers a beautifully succinct and organic composition that mirrors not only the shape, but the delicacy, of the lily pads, vines, and blooms that adorn its junctures. The organic shape and rounded dip in each of the table's double tiered planes mimics the appearance of a water lily suspended in water, creating a beautiful cohesion in the design. The works by Majorelle that feature gilt bronze accents, like this one, were produced by his team of highly skilled craftsman with the utmost attention to detail, and are widely considered the most exceptional and collectible of the artist's oeuvre.
