This special, pâte de verre glass vase, titled "Primevères", or "Primroses," by Gabriel Argy-Rousseau, most prominently features a purple and red organic decoration, elegantly encased in a down-turned teardrop shape abstractly resembling red primrose flowers. All in relief against a background of milky-hued lilac and pink coloration, the vase is further decorated with a purple Art Deco ornamental upper border.

Though technically Art Deco in style, Gabriel Argy-Rousseau composition may confuse an untrained eye, due to the wonderful softness of the composition. The lush pink and purple of the composition, with rounded vegetal forms, is vaguely impressionist in its scope, however, a step back reveals the architectural structure and international influence that served as hallmarks of the period that are very much present in this remarkable piece.
