A vibrant bouquet cast in arresting relief delight the eye in this pâte de verre nightlight, known as "La Coupe Fleurie," by Gabriel Argy-Rousseau. A dreamy abundance of near abstracted, overlapping blooms in hues of pink, orange, and purple dominated the upper portion of the dome shaped glass shade. The lower half of the composition provides a wonderful visual counterbalance to the profuse floral motifs that bloom above it, in a deep and subtle purple with simple, vertical striations as its only patterning this bottom sections suggest the form of a vase or Jardinière from which the flowers grow.

Though a generally soft and naturalistic composition, Argy-Rousseau does make some nods in the design of this piece to the artistic and decorative style that ruled the day when it was created, the Art Deco style. Upon closer inspection you may notice that the interiors of the flowers are dominated by strict and regular geometric forms, a hall mark of the Deco movement.
