Fred Paris 18K Gold and Diamond Gemini Pendant Necklace

SOLD
$12,500

Created by Fred Paris in the 1970s, this astrological Gemini pendant necklace is composed of 18K gold and diamonds. It is designed as an oblong form with relief classical figures of the twins plucking diamond fruits from a tree, within a beaded and ringed frame. The sign of Gemini represents the twin half-brother princes, Castor and Pollux. Pollux was the son of the god Zeus, while Castor a son of Tyndareus the mortal King of Sparta. Together they are known as the Dioskouri and represent the spiritual and physical duality of the astrological sign Gemini.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Fred had the visionary concept of collaborating with modern artists whom he had befriended - these included Jean Cocteau, Georges Braque, Picasso, and Arman, among others. These artists influenced the firm's work, and their modernist sensibility continued to be expressed in their later jewelry. In 1976, Fred himself presented a ruby and diamond "Scorpio" pendant, a work from this jewel's series, to Princess Grace at the opening of his Monaco salon.
