English Antique Opal and Old European-cut Diamond Three Stone Ring
Set in 18K gold, this turn of the 19th century English three stone ring with scrolling gallery is composed of opal cabochons interspersed with old European-cut diamonds. With its lovely combination pale blue and pink opals with subtle spectral phenomena, highlighted by fiery antique-cut diamonds, this elegant ring conveys the pastel-hued, refined aesthetic of the Edwardian era.

The term "precious" opal connotes the fact that the gem displays spectral phenomena or "play-of-color." By contrast "common" opal occurs in all colors, but does not display the spectral colors that precious opal does. Still, common transparent opal can occur in non-phenomenal but beautiful shades of blue, pink, green and orange.
