Great French jewelry houses have drawn inspiration from Parisian couture and French artisanal fabrics since the 18th century. The Sévigné , for instance, was an openwork “lace” bow from which hung one or more pendants, while the Negligée was a necklace resembling a casually tied ribbon. In the early 20th century, Cartier was among the great French houses to create superb jewels inspired by “passementerie”, the French art of decorative trimming such as tassels, braid, and fringing. This lace cuff inspired bracelet represents Cartier’s continued inspiration in this rich tradition.
