Cabochon Moonstone Gold Ring

This 1960s gold ring is set with an oval moonstone cabochon. The moonstone is flanked by scrolling shoulders designed as buds and elongated fronds continuing toward the reverse of the shank. The moonlight-among-clouds phenomenon of the gem and its bold, naturalistic setting beautifully express the spiritual and nature-loving essence of the 1960s.

Moonstone derives its unearthly, phenomenon from the thin layering of two types of feldspar. Together, on the microscopic level, these minerals interfere with and scatter light, extinguishing some wavelengths and amplifying others, creating fugitive gleams of bluish and milky "moonlight."
