French Platinum and Gold and Diamond Clip Earrings

These platinum and 18K gold diamond clip earrings were created in the 1950s-1960s. Each earring is designed as a diamond branch with wirework three stylized, ripe pomegranates of alternating white and yellow gold wirework, each splitting open to reveal diamond seeds, and are artfully shaped to hug the ear and face. Combining textured gold highlighted by brilliant light reflections, they create a visual sense of opulence and plenty.

European jewelers rediscovered the beauty of gold thanks to restrictions on platinum use during World War II. In the post-War period, they continued to explore how gold - including wirework, scalloping, ruffling, and various finish textures could create fascinating surfaces and volumes, as well as intriguing figural forms.
