Amethyst and Seed Pearl Tassel Earrings

Dating from the Art Deco period, these earrings are designed as a cascade of graduating amethyst beads, old European-cut diamonds, and dripping lengths of seed pearls. Glamorously long and flexible, the earrings’ rich purple amethysts and tassels of luminous, velvety seed pearls are counterbalanced by the sparkling rings of diamonds, offering radiance, fluidity, and movement to enhance the face and eyes.

With jewelry evolving, as always, hand-in-hand with couture, earrings grew longer in the 1920s as women bobbed their hair, and complemented the fluid verticality of their gowns. As fashion again changed, Art Deco earrings were very often significantly shortened, making these a rare surviving speciment from a fabulous period in design.
