
Alphonse Mucha "Hamlet" Lithograph
This French Art Nouveau lithograph, entitled "Hamlet," by Alphonse Mucha, is one of several posters that Mucha designed for the renowned actress, Sarah Bernhardt. In this lithograph, she is shown in the role of Hamlet, performed in her theater in Paris in 1899. Pictured in the background is an evocation of the night scene in Elsinore Castle, and in the banderole below, is an image of the dead Ophelia.
