In the 19th century, enthusiasm for sentimental jewelry was inspired by the love of Queen Victory and her Prince Consort, Albert, and resulted in an explosion of new jewelry forms. This jewelry fashion quickly swept the entire English speaking world. In America, cradle of the "do-it-yourself spirit", families owned instruction manuals that taught hair braiding and weaving skills. Completed samples could be brought to the family jeweler for mounting.
