Tiffany Studios New York “Chainmail” Chandelier

The shade on this Tiffany Studios New York “Chainmail” chandelier makes a bold statement, evoking the lamellar armor of the great Moorish warriors. The colors gently graduate from red-orange to a mottled orange and yellow. The shade terminates in a flexible “Chainmail” skirt consisting of small green-ochre Favrile glass squares.

Tiffany was inspired to travel through Southern Spain and North Africa by the publication of Mark Twain's Innocents Abroad in 1869. So taken was Tiffany with the visual language of the region that he incorporated "Moorish" motifs in many of his most notable works for the rest of his life.
