The adjacent hissing serpents, each knotted around itself, are decorated in varying patterns in red, black, and white cloisonné enamel scales outlined in delicate rope twist gold wire, and have diamond or ruby eyes. Beautifully modeled, this bracelet makes an energetic and visually captivating statement on the wrist.

Snake and serpent lovers have demanded these dramatic jewels for millennia. Throughout the Roman and Hellenistic world, pairs of gold and gem-set serpents bracelets symbolizing love and wisdom were worn both on the upper and lower arms. Here, the Victorians created this dramatic snake bangle decorated in an aposematic combination of black, red, and white enamels to draw the eye instinctively to this pair of dangerous creatures tamed for the arm.
