Tiffany Studios New York "Double Student Vine Border" Table Lamp

$35,000

This Tiffany Studios New York leaded glass and bronze "Double Student Vine Border" table lamp features double leaded glass shades that branch out in two arms with a centered patinated bronze “Oil Can” base. Elaborately decorated and proudly vertical, the base of this lamp is a compelling element in its own right. Featuring intricate scroll-work motifs and arabesque, window like vignettes on the central canister, this composition is brought outward by the dual arms that hold two lamps, each phenomenal in their own right. The right and left lamps both hold wonderfully refined near-geometric "Vine Border" motif shades that counter the intricacy of the decoration of the smaller canisters that hold the shades.

The arabesque elements of the lamp are no doubt inspired by Louis Comfort Tiffany's great love of Northern Africa and Southern Spain, and their respective visual languages. He traveled to this region in the world after being inspired by Mark Twain's famed text Innocents Abroad. Tiffany not only integrated visual motifs from these regions into his lamps, he incorporated them into other mediums like oil painting and into the architectural layout of his home.
