Evenly-colored, inclusion-free, bright blue turquoise such as this has been prized in Europe for centuries, and was often sourced from two remote regions of Iran. European misunderstanding about the mines’ geographic location led to the misnomer turquoise, based on the mistaken idea that the precious stone’s source was Turkey.
