Multicolor Gem-set and Diamond Bangle Bracelet
Set with multicolor gems and diamonds, this hinged 14K gold bangle was created around the turn of the 19th century. Across its top, the bangle is bezel-set with twelve square-cut gems, including pink tourmaline and topaz, peridot, blue sapphire, spinel, amethyst, aquamarine and peridot, interspersed with 22 old European-cut diamond melee. Light and modern in its simplicity, this very wearable jewel casually combines vivid color and sparkle to stand alone or mix with multiples.

These multi-color gems may have been harvested from the gem gravels of Sri Lanka. For millennia, the island has been a celebrated historic source of sapphires, topaz, tourmalines, zircons and other colored stones gathered from the alluvial gravels created by countless millennia of erosion. In the late 19th century, jewelers celebrated these gravels with bib necklaces and bangles composed of "handfuls" of these variously colored gems.
