The 1940s saw the return of naturalism in jewelry, powerfully encouraged by the Duchess of Windsor and the glamorous fashion upheaval she inspired. Her outsize flower jewels by Van Cleef & Arpels in multi-colored sapphires, rubies and diamonds touched off a craze for gemmy floral jewelry such as this bold and richly colored suite.
