This spectacular opal displays a high percentage of rare and intense broadly-distributed red play-of-color along with green and orange highlights against its rich blue ground. Precious black opal is made of water and microspheres of silica which diffract light into its component hues. This opal displays an array of spectral colors, indicating it is one of those rare specimens composed of a wide range of silica microspheres composed ranging from approximately 1500-3500 angstroms.
