The founder of the Maison, Frédéric Boucheron was a friendly man known to his many colleagues and clients as Monsieur Frédéric. He meticulously oversaw the house jewelry creations, once remaking a sapphire necklace three times until the owner, Mrs. John Mackay, was comfortable in it. Descended from a family active in the textile trade, he was the first Parisian jeweler to play with gold mesh, creating a silky scarf necklace of woven gold for a Russian noblewoman - a hundred years before Elsa Peretti independently designed necklaces of similar construction for Tiffany & Co.
