Louis Majorelle Walnut and Fruitwood Marquetry Desk

This joyful French Art Nouveau walnut desk with fruitwood marquetry and bronze hardware, by Louis Majorelle, promises to inspire, with its bouquets of marquetry flowers decorating the apron drawer and upright back of the piece, which features letter holders on each side, and the abstracted heart shaped nature of the desk's surface. Adding to the uplifting beauty of the piece are the wonderful bronze detailing on the pulls of the drawers, which are cast as stylized flowers.

One of the hallmarks of Louis Majorelle's designs was the sinuous, almost twisting nature of the legs, that imbues the piece with the sense that it may simply get up and walk its way into your home. This desk is a perfect example of this charm that makes Majorelle furniture so endearing and yet so elegant at the same time.
