After World War II, the new leadership of Tiffany - Walter Hoving, Van Day Truex, and Harry Platt - looked to renew the design vitality of the firm by turning back to Europe and global art traditions for inspiration, and by tapping surviving traditions of artisanship. Under Jean Schlumberger, from the late 1950s, Tiffany turned to French and Italian jewelers to manufacture some designs. The necklace from this suite appears to bear the maker's mark of Verger Frères, a superb firm that made jewelry for the major Parisian maisons, and was also one of Tiffany's select French manufacturers.
