Created in 1967, this African inspired antelope brooch by Aldo Cipullo for Tiffany & Co. is composed of 18K gold, enamel and diamonds. The brooch is designed as a young waterbuck or oryx with dark basse taille enamel head and horns, highlighted by round brilliant-cut diamond stripes on its curved horns, snout, neck and hooves, with textured gold body and cabochon ruby eyes. A playful tribute to the stylized forms of African art so influential in the 1960s, this Tiffany brooch represents the early work of one of New York's most original high jewelry designers.

A highly talented and original designer from a Roman family, Aldo Cipullo worked for Tiffany & Co. under Gene Moore and Donald Claflin from approximately 1966-1969. This brooch is one of a limited series of artistic jewels based on African masks and ceremonial figures that had impressed Cipullo.
