Red Coral and Black Onyx Diamond Pendant Drop Earrings

$23,500

These French pendant drop earrings of carved red coral and black onyx, interspersed geometrically amongst old European-cut diamonds, are an exceptional example of jewelry in the Art Deco period. The onyx and coral bead tops, accented by two diamonds, flexibly suspend a tear-drop form diamond and calibré-cut onyx hoop framing a freely-dangling, conforming coral hoop. Long, glamorous, and light on the ear, they express the aesthetic of age with their bold primary colors, pavè-set period diamonds, and bold geometric design.

Art Deco pendant earrings were long, compatible with the new freedom of movement and short hairstyles that women enjoyed for the first time in the 1920s. The bold color contrasts offered by the coral and onyx are indicative of the early spirit of the Deco movement.
