Created in the 1920s, these Art Deco jardiniere or giardinetto pendant earrings are composed of platinum, lapis lazuli and diamonds. Each is designed as diamond tops suspending a square sugarloaf cabochon lapis, articulated lines of bead and bezel-set diamonds, and a lapis flower jardiniere, with a flexible diamond fringe. These rare and hard-to-find Art Deco earrings of original, glamorous length are at once stylish, playful and refined.

In the 1930s and post-War period, hairstyles and couture changed considerably. The long pendant earrings of the Art Deco, their elongated, highly articulated forms suited beautifully to bobbed hair and flowing vertical gowns, were considered to clash with the hairstyles and structured couture forms of the post-war New Look. By the 1950s, many Art Deco pendant earrings were fated to be shortened and restructured to conform to these new style standards. Thankfully, these long and glamorous period earrings were among the jewels that escaped. Their jardiniere or giardinetto form derives from 18th century architectural and garden designs to which the early 20th century French jewelers returned for inspiration.
