Louis Majorelle Walnut Wood Server "Cephataria" Cabinet

This Art Nouveau walnut wood server cabinet by Louis Majorelle is punctuated by a detailed "Cephataria" motif. The server has two drawers with gilt-bronze handles adorned with a leaf motif, as well as double door storage below, and is elaborately carved throughout in a floral cephataria motif. The composition of the French piece, which features both sinuous lines creating a rounded effect and starkly rectilinear components which demonstrate Majorelle's ability to combine a beautiful form with complete functionality. The piece stands as a visual anchor in the set that it belongs to.

This wonderful server rewards prolonged consideration; as one contemplates the seemingly plane rectangular bottom doors, lush linear patterns appear, as one's eye approaches the top of the piece, a small bouquet of delicately carved cephalaria flowers bloom—proving, once again, that when it comes to Louis Majorelle, no detail can be considered unattended to.
