Tiffany Studios New York “Nasturtium” Table Lamp
This Tiffany Studios New York "Nasturtium" table lamp, features a vividly colored leaded glass shade, depicting cerise, orange, and pink nasturtium blossoms, deeply hued as to be semi-opaque against a striking, streaky blue, green, and pink background, replete with large swathes of oval lily pad like leaves. The elegant shade sits on a patinated bronze base decorated with furled fronds, reticulated scales, and artichoke leaves.

Nasturtiums were commonly known in Europe as Indian Cress or a translation of “Capucine cress”, in reference to the flower shape, which resembles Capucine monks’ hooded robes. Leaves of both species were eaten in salads; unripe seeds and flower buds were pickled and served as a substitute for capers.
