Tiffany Studios New York "Dogwood" Floor Lamp
The shade of this Tiffany Studios New York "Dogwood" leaded glass floor lamp features a bouquet of pink, white, and cream dogwood blossoms against a yellow-green mottled ground, textured with Louis Comfort Tiffany's subtle use of striated glass. Surmounted by a bronze cap with hogtail finial and geometric piercing each blossom in the shade is unbelievably modeled and shaded, so as to mimic the natural, slight darkening of hue found in the petals of dogwood blossoms, as the lamp is punctuated by eight rows of chartreuse-hued geometric glass brick tiles.

The use of the Dogwood in Tiffany's career predated Tiffany Studios by a decade. Ida F. Clark began her career as an embroiderer for Candace Wheeler's early partnership wi1h Louis C. Tiffany as part of the design firm 'Associated Artists." One of her most celebrated works was a "Cobweb and Dogwood" embroidery design. The Dogwood embroidery was later adapted into one of Tiffany's earliest lamps (Cobweb and Apple Blossom.) Tiffany painted a pink variety of the Dogwood, Cornus florida f. rubra, in 1900, which bears striking resemblance to the pink dogwood blossoms of this particular shade.
