Van Cleef & Arpels Paris Diamond Pendant Earrings

$50,000

Designed by Van Cleef & Arpels, Paris, and created by the exclusive manufacturing jeweler André Vassort, these 1960s clip pendant earrings are composed of diamonds and 18K gold. Each highly three dimensional earring, composed of round brilliant-cut diamonds within delicately scalloped gold surrounds suspending a flexible fringe of diamonds, is inspired by the traditional Indian Paan leaf motif. Designed by a major Parisian house, and executed by a master jeweler, these perfectly proportioned earrings showcase the brilliance of diamonds with the warmth, texture and soft movement of beautifully worked gold.

In the 1960s, Van Cleef & Arpels turned again to India for inspiration. Indian jewelry arts had contributed to the extraordinary rejuvenation of Parisian jewelry design after World War I. In some cases, aristocratic Indian family relationships to the firm were ongoing. André Vassort, a talented Parisian jeweler and goldsmith, manufactured for Van Cleef & Arpels, Mauboussin, Boucheron and Cartier, among others. Due to his exceptional skills, his work was in high demand at these major houses. In the long Parisian tradition of outside manufacturers, Vassort and his workshop were content to practice their art behind the scenes.
