Platinum-Topped Gold and Diamond Maple Leaf Brooch

$5,500

At the time of its creation, this antique platinum and gold maple leaf brooch was likely considered a fantastical piece of futurism, adorned and highlighted by colorless diamonds. Rendered in platinum-topped yellow gold, the maple leaf's graphic outline is embellished with delicate rose-cut diamonds, forming the leaf veins and stem. Three bezel-set round European-cut diamonds dangle and hang from the leaf, like tantalizing dew drops.

The dew drops on this exquisite gem hint at the passing of time, immortalizing the ephemeral in gold, platinum, and diamond. At the time, platinum was just gaining acceptance as a gem-quality material. Gold was still the standard material for diamond-setting, so the materials, as well as the style of the work, speak to us about the jeweler's visionary perspective.
