Marquise Diamond and Ruby Bracelet

The central, graduated row of sparkling marquise-cut diamonds in this mid-20th century platinum bracelet instills a sense of order with its elegant architecture. Two outer rows of rubies add color and definition, calling attention to the open design, and imbuing this flexible bracelet with feminine allure. A hidden clasp closes the form, keeping the satisfying pattern on an infinitely repeating loop.

Legend has it that Louis XV named the marquise-cut for his beloved mistress Jeanne Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour. Inspired by the shape of her lips, the new cut was featured prominently in a jewel presented to her by the king. A patron of the arts herself, the inner circle of Madame de Pompadour's closest friends was comprised some of the most brilliant minds of the day, including Voltaire.
